Memorial Day Weekend, 2006

Mary returns tonight from the Chelsea Flower Show in London.

The husbands of her three traveling friends came by last night.

I also had two dozen people over.

We played bocce, and LCR.

I barbequed hamburgers, hot dogs and sausage.

Scott and Camilla helped host.

No pix of that evening, but today I walked through the house and grounds.
Here are the 29 consecutive shots:

Car and truck in our garage

Kitchen and family room.

Mary's office with her new fabrics

Our bed moved to the Feng Shui command position.

The flower tree is my anniversary present to her, because we met 28 years ago tonight.

Our closet. The flower hat on the table is from Pam.

Deck outside kitchen.

The party was held here.

We played bocce on the lawn with this challenging slope.

Blacktop driveway leading to the house to the left

The walk-out basement

My garden.  I hoed up rough brush and tall grass.

The statue and grotto of the blessed virgin Mary were gifts to grandma and grandpa.

Formed and poured when I was born.

Our cousins' grandfather Carl who I called Noonock made the grotto himself.

The statue was designed and made by his older brother John in Hartsdale, Westchester.

I recycle the filter fabric silt fence to keep the weeds down.

Three foot fence not complete.

I have 12 tomato plants in now, but I'm supposed to get seeds that came from a line consecutively in the family since 1905 when they were brought over from Italy. Also, Aunt Marion has started two plants for me.

Maybe I can grow some square watermelons, like this one from AOL:

It's grown in a box that forces its shape.

The house as seen from the garden.

The middle pine tree was struck by lightning last fall, and is not surviving this spring.

So it must be dropped onto the garden after the harvest is in.

Viburnum and flowers Mary bought in the concrete pots

Driveway to house

Looking up our driveway to the street.

I transplanted all evergreen trees to the right two years ago.

I added the dwarf aspen spruce to the other two.

And two new holly trees at the entry steps, plus the boxwoods and a rhododendron.

Same shot closer

See the statue of Mary under the pines?

This parking area was full last night.

Aaron Burr's school and home for 6 years during the Revolutionary War

is straight ahead over the trees I planted right of the white building.

The Rose of Sharon planted for Uncle Joe

Garden as seen from the deck

Kitchen with party leftover watermelon.

Happy Memorial Day to you!

God bless America!

Pete
